Ставки корпоративного налога и стимулы в Jersey: полное руководство для бизнеса

Jersey, a self-governing Crown Dependency, has long been recognised as a leading international finance centre, attracting businesses and investors worldwide. A significant factor in its appeal is its sophisticated and competitive corporate tax regime, often referred to as the 'zero/ten' system. Understanding this framework, along with specific tax rates and available incentives, is crucial for any business considering establishing a presence on the island.

Understanding Jersey's 'Zero/Ten' Corporate Tax System

At the heart of Jersey's corporate tax strategy is the 'zero/ten' system, introduced in 2009. This system is designed to maintain the island's competitive edge while adhering to international standards of transparency and fairness. The core principle is straightforward: most Jersey-resident companies pay a 0% corporate income tax rate on their profits. However, there are specific exceptions where a 10% or 20% rate applies.

The 0% Corporate Tax Rate

The vast majority of companies incorporated in Jersey, or those managed and controlled from Jersey, fall under the 0% corporate tax rate. This includes trading companies, holding companies, and many other types of businesses that do not derive their income from specific regulated financial services activities or utility provision. This zero rate makes Jersey an attractive jurisdiction for international business, allowing companies to retain more of their earnings for reinvestment and growth. It's important to note that while the corporate tax rate is 0%, companies still have obligations such as filing annual tax returns and paying an annual company registry fee.

The 10% Corporate Tax Rate

A 10% corporate tax rate applies to companies that derive income from certain regulated financial services activities. This includes, but is not limited to, banking, fund management, investment management, trust company business, and insurance business. The rationale behind this higher rate for financial services is to align with international norms and ensure that sectors with significant economic activity contribute appropriately to the island's public finances. Companies operating in these sectors must be licensed and regulated by the Jersey Financial Services Commission (JFSC) and are subject to stringent regulatory oversight in addition to their tax obligations.

The 20% Corporate Tax Rate

There are two primary categories of companies subject to a 20% corporate tax rate:

  1. Utility Companies: Companies providing utility services in Jersey, such as electricity, gas, water, and telecommunications, are taxed at 20%. This higher rate reflects the essential nature of these services and their often monopolistic or oligopolistic market positions within the island.
  2. Rental Income from Jersey Property: Companies that derive income from the rental of Jersey property or from the development of Jersey property for sale are also subject to a 20% corporate tax rate. This measure ensures
