Brief history and founding
The SEB Group traces its roots to 1856, when André Oscar Wallenberg founded Stockholms Enskilda Bank. Through later developments and a series of mergers — most significantly the formation of Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken in 1972 — SEB has grown into a full-service Nordic bank serving retail, corporate, institutional and private clients. SEB's operations have long extended beyond Sweden to the other Nordic countries, including Denmark, where it provides services to corporate clients, institutions and private individuals, especially in wealth management and corporate banking.
Type of bank
SEB is a universal bank at group level, offering a broad range of services: corporate and institutional banking, investment banking and capital markets, private banking and wealth management, asset management and life insurance. In Denmark, SEB’s focus is predominantly on corporate and institutional banking, capital markets and private banking/wealth management. Retail and mass-market consumer banking is generally less prominent in the Danish operations compared with local retail banks, but products for private clients (especially high-net-worth clients) are available through SEB’s private banking channels.
